Last summer my goal was to have an edible garden in our home. Even though I’m very far away from having a French Laundry type of set up I am proud of the progress I’ve made. Specially considering that I don’t really have a green thumb. I’ll get to taking pictures of all of our boxes but for today I wanted to show off the plant that is single-handedly supplying our home with enough snack and salad tomatoes.
This beauty in a barrel planted early last fall. I thought it was a volunteer. Turns out P spit out a tomato into the blueberry barrel. Conditions must have been perfect because it grew and grew and grew. It made it through winter. It made it through freezing temperatures at night. It’s been watered with warm water and coffee grounds rinsed out from the French Press. I feel we give it love and and it loves us right back. The girls or I pick off all the red tomatoes. We enjoy the harvest and two days later, when we’re out, she has a whole new batch ready for us.
One of my proudest moments was when I yelled “l’ll be right back. I’m stepping out to pick tomatoes for tomorrow’s lunch boxes!”! It’s the little things that make me so happy. And this tomato plant is one of them…except she’s not so little anymore.
